Process for closing a school and deactivating UDISE+ code

Reasons for School Closure

  • Low enrollment making school non-viable
  • Government rationalization policy
  • Recognition/affiliation not renewed
  • Legal/compliance issues
  • Merger with another school
  • Voluntary closure by management

Closure Process

  1. Apply for Closure

    Submit application to Block/District education office

  2. Student Transfer

    Issue TCs to all students, transfer records

  3. Staff Settlement

    Process teacher transfers/settlements

  4. Final UDISE+ Submission

    Submit final data with closure note

  5. Code Deactivation

    State admin marks school as "Closed"

Required Documents

  • Application for closure with reasons
  • Board/Trust resolution (for private schools)
  • Student transfer records
  • Staff settlement proof
  • Final accounts statement
  • NOC from relevant authorities

Important Notes

  • UDISE code is never reused after closure
  • Historical data is preserved for records
  • School can't reopen with same code
  • New registration needed if school restarts
  • Notice period may be required by state
