What is Student Transfer in UDISE+?
In the UDISE+ portal, student transfer refers to the process of moving a student's record from one school to another using the Transfer Certificate (TC) module. When a student leaves a school, the current school must issue a TC through the UDISE+ system so the receiving school can import the student record.
This ensures that the student's PEN (Permanent Education Number), Aadhaar details, and academic history remain consistent and accurate across schools — preventing duplicate entries and data loss.
Previous School
Issues TC via
Transfer Out
New School
Admits student via
Transfer In
Key Point: The TC must be issued first by the previous school in the UDISE+ system before the new school can admit the student. Without this, the student will not appear in the receiving school's Transfer-In list.
How to Transfer a Student Out (Issue TC)
Follow these steps when a student is leaving your school and needs a Transfer Certificate:
Login to UDISE+ SDMS Portal
Visit udiseplus.gov.in and login using your school's UDISE code as the username and your password. If you've forgotten your credentials, see our Forgot Username guide or Password Reset guide.
Navigate to Student Management → Transfer Out (TC Issued)
From the main dashboard, click on Student Management in the left sidebar menu, then select Transfer Out (TC Issued).
Search for the Student
Use any of the following search methods to find the student:
Select the Student Record
Click on the correct student from the search results. Verify the name, class, and other details before proceeding.
Enter Transfer Certificate Details
Fill in the following TC information:
Click Confirm Transfer
Review all details and click Confirm Transfer. The student will be marked as "Transferred Out" and will automatically appear in the receiving school's Transfer-In list.
Warning: Once a transfer is confirmed, it cannot be undone from the school level. Make sure all TC details are correct before confirming. Contact your Block Education Office if you need to reverse a transfer.
How to Admit a Transferred Student (Transfer In)
Follow these steps when admitting a student who has been transferred from another school:
Login to UDISE+ SDMS Portal
Access udiseplus.gov.in and login with your school's credentials.
Navigate to Student Management → Transfer In
From the left menu, go to Student Management and click on Transfer In.
Enter Previous School's UDISE Code
Enter the 11-digit UDISE code of the student's previous school. You can find this on the student's TC or by using our UDISE School Code Finder tool.
Search and Verify Student Details
Search by student name or Aadhaar number. The system will show transferred students from that school. Carefully verify that the student details (name, DOB, father's name) match the physical TC.
Assign Class and Section
Select the class and section where the student will be admitted in your school. Ensure this matches the appropriate grade level.
Confirm Admission
Click Confirm Admission. The student's complete data — including Aadhaar, PEN, photo, and academic history — transfers automatically to your school. No need to re-enter any data manually.
Data That Transfers Automatically: Student name, Aadhaar, PEN, date of birth, parent details, address, photo, category (SC/ST/OBC/General), and previous academic records.
Common Problems in UDISE+ Student Transfer
Many schools face issues during the transfer process. Here are the most common problems and their solutions:
❌ Student Not Appearing in Transfer-In List
You entered the UDISE code but the student doesn't show up.
- TC not issued properly — ask previous school to verify TC issuance
- Wrong UDISE school code entered — cross-check with School Code Finder
- Student data not verified in SDMS — previous school must verify first
- System synchronization delay — wait 15–30 minutes and try again
⚠️ TC Number Already Exists Error
System shows duplicate TC number when issuing transfer.
Each TC number must be unique within your school. Check if the same TC number was used for another student and use a different TC number.
❌ Student Data Mismatch After Transfer
Student details don't match after admission at the new school.
The new school can edit certain fields after transfer. For locked fields, submit a data correction request to your Block Education Office.
⚠️ Transfer Stuck or Not Processing
Transfer was initiated but not completing.
- Clear browser cache and try again
- Use Chrome or Firefox (avoid Internet Explorer)
- Check if the UDISE+ portal is under maintenance
- Contact your Block/District office if issue persists
Important Terms in UDISE+ Transfer
Understanding these key terms will help you navigate the transfer process smoothly:
Transfer Certificate
An official certificate issued by the previous school confirming that the student has left. Required for admission at any new school. Must be issued in the UDISE+ portal for the transfer to be processed digitally.
Permanent Education Number
A unique student ID assigned by the government that tracks a student across schools and academic years. The PEN stays the same even when a student transfers to a new school.
11-Digit School Identification
A unique 11-digit number assigned to each school in India under the UDISE+ system. Required when processing Transfer-In to identify the previous school. Find any school's code using our School Code Finder.
School Data Management System
The UDISE+ portal's Student Data Management System where all student records — including transfers, admissions, and academic data — are managed by schools.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. The previous school must issue the TC (Transfer Certificate) in the UDISE+ portal before the receiving school can admit the student. Without the digital TC, the student will not appear in the Transfer-In list.
The student's Aadhaar number, PEN (Permanent Education Number), date of birth, parent details, photo, category, and academic history remain intact and move automatically to the new school. No data needs to be re-entered manually.
Usually the transfer appears instantly after the previous school confirms it. In some cases, it may take 15–30 minutes due to system synchronization. If it takes longer, contact the previous school to verify TC issuance.
Transfers cannot be reversed at the school level once confirmed. You need to contact your Block Education Office (BEO) or District Education Office with supporting documents to request a transfer reversal.
You can find any school's UDISE code using the public search feature on the UDISE+ portal, or use the Schoolites School Code Finder tool. The code is also printed on the student's physical Transfer Certificate.
Yes, UDISE+ supports inter-state student transfers. The process is the same — the previous school issues TC, and the new school (even in another state) can search and admit using the UDISE code. The PEN remains the same across states.
Transfers can be done throughout the year. However, it is recommended to complete transfers before the data lock date to ensure accurate enrollment counts. Check with your state education department for specific deadlines.
If the student does not have a UDISE+ record (common for students from unrecognized schools or new admissions), you should use the Student Data Entry module to add them as a fresh admission instead of Transfer-In.
