How Attendance Percentage Is Calculated

The formula is straightforward:

Attendance % = (Days Present ÷ Total Working Days) × 100

For example, if a school had 220 working days and a student attended 198 days:
(198 ÷ 220) × 100 = 90%

Why Attendance Tracking Matters

Regular attendance tracking is not just a compliance requirement — it directly impacts learning outcomes. Here is why schools should monitor attendance closely:

  • Board exam eligibility: CBSE and most state boards require minimum 75% attendance to appear for final exams
  • RTE compliance: Schools must report attendance data to government portals including UDISE+
  • Early intervention: Identifying students with falling attendance helps prevent dropouts
  • Parent communication: Accurate attendance data strengthens parent-teacher interactions
  • Scholarship eligibility: Many government scholarships have attendance thresholds
