Calculate Your Weighted Grade

Most courses don't weight everything equally — a final worth 40% moves your grade far more than homework worth 10%. The formula: Weighted Grade = Σ(Grade × Weight) ÷ Σ Weights. Add one row per category (or per assessment) below.

Weights can be percentages (20, 30, 50) or points (200, 300, 500) — the tool normalises them.

Worked Example

Grade = (92×20 + 84×30 + 76×50) ÷ 100 = 81.6%

Homework 92% (weight 20), quizzes 84% (weight 30), exams 76% (weight 50)

Notice how the exam category dominates: despite 92% homework, the overall grade lands close to the exam score. When deciding where to put study time, weight matters more than the number of assignments.

Weights Don't Add Up to 100?

Two common cases, both handled by this calculator:

  • Mid-semester (weights < 100): if only 60% of the course is graded so far, the tool computes your grade on the completed portion. Your final grade can still move — pair this with the Final Grade Calculator to see what you need on the rest.
  • Point systems: if your course uses points (say 850 points earned out of assessments worth 1000), enter each assessment's percentage and its point value as weight — the normalisation gives the same result as the syllabus math.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate a weighted grade?

Multiply each category's grade by its weight, add the products, then divide by the sum of weights. Example: (90×0.3 + 80×0.7) = 83% for a course weighted 30/70.

What if my weights add up to less than 100%?

That usually means part of the course is not graded yet. The calculator divides by the weight actually used, giving your current standing on completed work.

Can I mix points and percentages?

Enter each assessment's score as a percentage and its point value as the weight. Because the tool normalises weights, a 300-point exam correctly counts three times as much as a 100-point quiz.

How is this different from a simple average?

A simple average treats every entry equally. A weighted average respects your syllabus: a final worth 40% affects your grade four times more than a 10% homework category.

Is anything I type stored?

No — the calculator runs entirely in your browser and transmits nothing.

Grading a Whole Class, Not One Course?

Schoolites lets teachers define weighted grading schemes once and auto-computes every student's grade, rank, and report card — for schools, colleges, and institutes.
